Here are some tips for getting a fixed price on your brake job that will not go up once your car has been disassembled:

Stay with your car when they are checking your brakes and ask to be shown your brake pad thickness on the spot. (The cost difference could be hundreds of dollars if you don’t.)
Tell them you want all your old parts.
Ask if there is any chance the price could go higher and explain how in writing. (It is VERY important that you get it in writing.)
Ask how much the brake calipers are if they find out you need them? (Many of the cheap price shops try to sell you calipers even if you don’t need them.)
Ask for the price of your rotors in advance if yours are too low to be turned. Have them show you the thickness and runout measurement on the spot. (Here, if your rotors can be turned we supply them for free up to $39.00. Installation not included.)
Make sure your pad wear sensor price is included.
Ask what brands and part # they are using for price comparison. (Most major brand pad makers are supplying a very cheap line of parts that some of the cheap places are now using. These cheap lines are prone to squeaks and over heating and premature rotor wear due to excessive metal content. Some of the “cheap” places use a “house brand” that is about the cheapest junk around.)
Ask what brand of calipers they use. (High quality calipers are worth a little extra because they stand up to the heat better and don’t need to be replaced every brake job.)
